TERMINAL EMULATION :
Several terminal emulations are available through
'TERMINAL' menu.
You simply click on the desired item to, after a quick
initialization, select the desired emulation mode. All
I/O will then be processed through the appropriate
emulator.
*END*
%twk01.hlp
CONNECTING TO A SITE :
In the 'COMMANDS' menu, click on PHONEBOOK. A dialog box
then appears. In the edit field NUMBER, enter the phone
number of the site you want to call. Do not forget to
validate the hook switch control and ringtype (TONE if
you are connected through an electronic central or PULSE
if you are on a rotary dial line).
If you now click on the CONFIRM button, all your
parameters will be saved to a file ready to be used
whenever desired. To immediately start a connection,
click on DIAL.
*END*
%twk02.hlp
CREATE A SITE :
In the PHONEBOOK, if you want to save the configuration,
after entering a filename in the FILE field, click on
SAVE.
TWinTalk will the show the line settings window to allow
you to change the modem type, speed, etc... before you
click on the CONFIRM box. TWinTalk will then save the
global settings in the (.CFG) filename you supplied. You
can create as many dialing sites as you wish.
-To start a connection, you just have to double click on
a site name in the SITES list box.
-When you have clicked on DIAL, or double clicked on a
site name, TWinTalk initialize the modem, closes the
PHONEBOOK window, and presents you with connection
control window.
*END*
%twk03.hlp
COMMUNICATION SETTINGS :
In the OPTIONS menu, click on the COMMUNICATIONS item. A
dialog box appears. You can now choose the physical and
logical line settings. If you do not know what kind of
modem you have, you should select one of the HAYES MODEM
files as a starting point.
Note: 'OFFHOOK' controls whether TwinTalk connects with
a remote site (ON) or is used just as a dialer
(OFF). If you cannot connect to a remote site,
try clicking this on. Also, AUTOMATIC must be
selected on the COMMANDS menu to allow dialing.
Note: you can use COM3 & COM4 ports only if the
addresses of these ports are stored in your BIOS
table. WARNING : When using COM3 or COM4 ports,
it is not possible to use COM2 port for hardware
reasons.
*END*
%twk04.hlp
CONNECTION CONTROL :
The connection control windows appears when the modem is
in a dialing and a carrier detect state.
When carrier is detected, the sinusoidal icon stops
moving, and the window closes, leaving you connected to
the remote site. If the thumb box should count down to
zero, the window disappears, you are off-line, but still
connected to the modem.
If you hear through the modem speaker the line is BUSY,
you can click on CANCEL, but you are again still
connected to the modem to dial again if you wish.
*END*
%twk05.hlp
CAPTURE :
This function of the 'FILE' menu, allows you to store in
a file all the incoming data. You will then be able to
examine this file locally (ie READ) at the completion of
your session. TWinTalk asks for the file name to which
the capture will be done.
Two types of capture are available:
1) SCREEN CAPTURE - This functions logs the entire
session to a file.
2) SCREEN->FILE - This function opens a capture file
in which the 'TEXT' content of the current screen
will be stored each time the command SCREEN->FILE
is selected.
*END*
%twk06.hlp
READ :
Lets you read in local mode (i.e. off-line) a file
CAPTURED or a text file.
TWinTalk asks for the filename of the file to read.
Twintalk then sends the file to the appropriate emulator
to interpret it (ANSI, VTxx, etc.).
In the Videotex case, TWinTalk stops the interpretation
at each end of page, and you have to click on the right
scroll arrow to continue the reading.
For the other emulators, you may stop the TWinTalk
playback when needed by clicking on the PAUSE checkbox.
You may also change the speed using the variable speed
feature.
*END*
%twk07.hlp
SAVE AS :
Saves the current TWinTalk settings in a dialing site
file.
This command allows you to save under a specified name a
special setting (i.e. change of speed, emulator etc.)
without accessing the PHONEBOOK.
*END*
%twk08.hlp
PRINT :
Prints the screen content on the current selected
printer. Note that only VIDEOTEX and PRESTEL emulations
allow graphic printing in eight gray levels.
In text mode, the printing is done in black on white. In
graphic mode, you can choose between POSITIVE or
NEGATIVE to lengthen the life of the printer's ink
cartridge.
SEE Printer setup on the FILES menu to configure your
printer!
*END*
%twk09.hlp
COPY :
Copy in the scrapbook the screen zone (text or graphic)
selected by the mouse or the whole screen if no
selection has been made. To select a screen zone, bring
the mouse arrow on the top left corner of the virtual
rectangle representing the selected zone.
Then while depressing the mouse left button, bring the
mouse arrow to the bottom right corner of the virtual
rectangle. Release the mouse button, the screen zone is
selected.
PASTE :
Allows you to send (on-line), the TEXT content of the
scrapbook.
It is necessary to be connected, and to have some data
available in TEXT format in the scrapbook before PASTE
is allowed. TWinTalk replaces the CR LF ending
characters of each line of text with the programmed
strings (see the Options item in the 'EDIT' menu for
specialized requirements).
*END*
%twk10.hlp
AUTOMATIC :
When checked, this signals that TWinTalk is running in
automatic mode for dialing and carrier detecting. When
not checked, (manual mode) you can CONNECT and enter
your own HAYES modem commands as desired. (Look at your
modem technical references manual for more details.)
Example :
You call someone you want to send a file to. You decide
the file transfer protocol and the line settings, one of
you must now enter the ATD <CR> command to take control
of the line as the "SENDER", while the other enters ATA
<CR> to put his modem in answer state (e.g. "RECEIVER").
The two modems will connect to each other, and file
transfers can now be done...
*END*
%twk11.hlp
KEYBOARD :
Draws a keyboard window (if it exists).
A double click on a screen string is interpreted by
TWinTalk as a command to send (on-line) the string
situated at the click position.
The mouse left button appends a carriage return to the
string. The mouse right button does the same but does
not generate the c/r. The string is parsed to look for
specific keywords, but also will isolate out contol or
special characters (like (){}[] etc.). Remember though,
at least one space must precede the selected string.
In the Videotex emulations, the string representing
keywords (ie SUITE, ENVOI, SOMMAIRE etc...) generates
the corresponding function as in VTxx F1 through f16,
return, etc...(Also note that ENVOI is sent at the end
of a string instead of c/r).
Videotex keyboard mapping :
TAB..........Repetition Lower Arrow..Suite
Upper Arrow..Retour Left Arrow...Correction
Right Arrow..Annulation Home.........Sommaire
End..........Guide F10..........Connexion/Fin
*END*
%twk12.hlp
COLOR :
If you have a color monitor and a graphic card (EGA),
COLOR will change the 8 possible colors to 8 gray scale
levels. If you have a monochrome graphic configuration,
you will be by default in gray mode, and COLOR will put
TWinTalk in a maximum contrast mode which will highlight
the text not easily readable in gray scale mode.
INK AND PAPER COLOR CHOICE :
This option is very useful for VTxxx and Teletype
because these emulations manage color escape codes
themselves and set initialization colors that you may
wish to modify.
*END*
%twk13.hlp
ARRANGE :
Restores (when possible and necessary) the emulator
window to its initial place and original size. This
command is only useful in Videotex and Prestel, because
these are the only emulations in which you are allowed
to move the window.
*END*
%twk14.hlp
CLOCK :
By checking this option, you tell to TWinTalk that you
want to calculate your connection costs. TWinTalk will
ask the price of one minute of connect time and, as soon
as the connection is established, will display a window
that will show the time elapsed and the approximate
cost.
*END*
%twk15.hlp
FONTS :
By checking this option, you tell to TWinTalk that you
want to use, in ANSI emulation, the IBM (tm) character
set rather than the ANSI character set. This is needed
on many hosts (servers) and BBS's (Bulletin Board
Services).
In VTxxx, you can choose between national character
sets.
*END*
%twk16.hlp
PROGRAM :
This menu gives access to TWinTalk's LEARN mode.
You just have to click on LEARN, give a file name, and
most of your TWinTalk commands will be saved in a script
file (.TWK) as a source text file very close in syntax
to that of PASCAL.
When you need to end LEARN mode, click again on LEARN to
close the file. Then, you can replay the 'scenario' with
the EXECUTE command, telling it the filename of any
script you want to run.
EDIT calls the MS-Windows (tm) text editor Notepad.exe
and allows you to modify the script files.
You can specify the text editor at your convenience in
the Win.ini file in the [TWinTalk] chapter under the
form:
[TWinTalk]
Edit=Notepad.exe
*END*
%twk17.hlp
FILE TRANSFERS :
TWinTalk can transmit files with several of the most
common file transfer protocols. ASCII, all the 8 bit
Christiansen ?MODEM protocols, YMODEM, PDIP (used in
SmarTerm tm) and Kermit (v2.29). (The two last can run
on 7 as well as 8 bits width communication channels).
ZMODEM may be added as an external protocol by adding
the following to WIN.INI: PROT1=name-of-dsz.PIF (giving
it the name of your PIF file for DSZ).
To start a file transfer, SENDING or RECEIVING, you must
be connected to another computer and it must have
already been instructed that a transfer is to take
place.
*END*
%twk18.hlp
USING TWINTALK WITHOUT MOUSE :
You can use TWinTalk without a mouse. When TWinTalk
detects there is no mouse connected to the computer, it
allows you to COPY/PASTE with the keyboard as well as
the mouse.
CTRL+ARROWS : move the mouse cursor from character
to character in the direction showed by the
arrow.
CTRL+SPACE+ARROWS : do the same displacements as
before, but as if the mouse left button was down
and do draws a selection rectangle for the COPY
command.
CTRL+HOME : moves the mouse cursor to the top left
corner of the display window.
CTRL+END : moves the mouse cursor to the bottom
right corner of the display window.
*END*
%twk19.hlp

This option allows you to define the sequences generated
by the Function Keys on your keyboard.
- To move from panel to panel, use the buttons
<PREVIOUS> and <NEXT>.
- If a syntax error is detected, the bad strings will
be highlighted.
- The modifications will only be saved after
validation.
- To use the configurated keyboard rather than the
default keyboard look at VTxxx SETTINGS.
